For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him. –Genesis 18:19
This Thursday at Mom’s Group we will be diving into Ch. 3 of the Parent Handbook (which corresponds to Ch. 4 of the book). We will cover as much of Ch. 3 as we can this week since we didn’t have much time to work on it the week of 10/7 when Brenda Cox shared her amazing story with us. This chapter has some great areas for discussion regarding the authority God has given us to act on His behalf with our children.
“As a parent, you have authority because God calls you to be an authority in your child’s life. You have the authority to act on the behalf of God. As a father or mother, you do not exercise rule over your jurisdiction, but over God’s. You act at his command. You discharge a duty that he has given. You may not try to shape the lives of your children as pleases you, but as pleases him.” (Book p.28)
Please find the scripture for Ch. 3 of the handbook here.
Two weeks ago we were so blessed to have Brenda Cox from Touch of Hope Children’s Home in India come share with us. It was powerful listening to her recount their ministry and deep faith in providing a Christian family to suffering children. We would love to take up an offering for them. If you feel moved to donate to their work, we will collect this week. Cash or checks to “Touch of Mercy Ltd” (HKD) can be given. Here is their website if you’d like to keep up with them or learn more: Touch of Mercy.
We will meet again on the 10/F, as well as having childcare on the 10/F. Come on up and join us for coffee and light refreshments at 9:30am on Thursday, Oct. 24, followed by large and small group time. Newcomers always welcome.
