This Thursday we will be praying in Large Group for any moms who are pregnant, or trying, or needing prayer in this area. Please let me know if you’d like to be included!
In our blocks, we will start looking at Chapter 5 of the Handbook. Dr. Tripp teaches us that we must not turn to unbiblical methods for parenting. These include: “I didn’t turn out so bad,” pop psychology, behavior modification, emotionalism, punitive correction, and erratic eclecticism. (Reading the chapter sheds light on what all of these mean!)
He tells us we need to focus on character development and be consistent. “God is not only concerned with the ‘what’ of parenting, he is concerned with the ‘how.’” And: “The problem is that since the heart and behavior are so closely linked, whatever modifies behavior inevitably trains the heart.”
We will evaluate our own parenting approaches and see what the Bible says about the results of our styles.
We will look at the Chapter 7 Application Questions on page 69 in the book and Digging into the Word in Chapter 5 of the Handbook. As time allows, you can go further into the Application section. Scripture verses are attached here for your easy reference.
See you Thursday on the 10/F, 9:30-11:30.
In His care,
Whitney
