Our chapter this week looks at something relevant to all of us — “Facing Our Fears and Failures.”
Can you relate to this heart cry from author Alice Fryling? “Why, God, is this so hard? Why do we only get one chance, and we won’t know for eighteen years if we’ve done well? What if I get to the end of the line and discover I’ve been making one mistake after another?”
In this study we will look at the fear we all face that we may fail as parents. Sometimes our fears focus on our abilities as parents, sometimes they focus on our problems with our children.
We will look at the book of Genesis to see how God responded when his children disappointed Him. And we will look at Romans to consider our fears about ourselves and see how God’s grace intersects our fears.
Have a look at the passages this week if you have time, and consider the following questions:
- What is one mistake you fear making as a parent?
- What kind of situations today might cause you as a parent to feel pain or disappointment over your children?
- What do you love and affirm about your chidlren, even though they make you angry sometimes?
- What good things do you wish you did more frequently for your children?
- In what ways does your own sin sabotage your efforts to love your children?
- When has God brought something good out of a negative experience in your family?
See you Thursday, May 16, from 9:30-11:30 on the 2/F at Island ECC. Childcare and refreshments provided.
